Where do you work?

What is Dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a learning disorder that affects your ability to read, write, and spell. People with dyslexia have trouble matching the letters they see on the page with the sounds those letters and combinations of letters make. Children and adults with dyslexia struggle to read fluently or spell correctly, among other challenges.

Dyslexia does not affect intelligence. People with dyslexia are just as smart and hard working as those who are not dyslexic. Dyslexics can be quick thinkers and highly creative individuals, and so reading difficulties are often unexpected.

Dyslexia is very common, affecting up to 20 percent of the population. Kids can’t outgrow dyslexia. But there are teaching methods that help them improve their reading skills and manage the challenges.

What is Orton-Gillingham teaching?

The Orton-Gillingham approach is a direct, explicitly, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach when reading, writing, and spelling do not come easily to individuals, such as those with dyslexia.

The approach is named for neuropsychiatrist and pathologist Samuel Torry Orton (1879 - 1948) and longtime educator and psychologist Anna Gillingham (1878 - 1963), who first developed its methods. Today, Orton-Gillingham based curricula is informed by nearly a century of time-tested practice as well as the latest scientific research on how people learn to read and write.

Our accredited teachers are trained in Orton-Gillingham methods and focused on the learning needs of the individual student.

How does it work?

The first step is to apply for a free consultation. From there we can assess if our program would be the right fit for your students learning needs.

After the consultation, you will receive a detailed report of your students reading and spelling skills. Our team will then match your child with one of our expert teachers, who will develop an individualized lesson sequence based on their current level.

Lessons are delivered via Zoom to fit your calendar. You will receive a monthly report on your child’s progress. Your student’s lessons will be consistently adapted as their skills change and improve over time.

Why does youRead recommend the Gold Plan?

We recommend the Goal Plan reading package at 180 min. for students who are well below grade level due to dyslexia. Research shows that 180 min. of structured literacy instruction per week is needed to make significant progress in closing achievement gaps.

What is your pricing? How are payments handled?

Three competitively priced learning packages available, all of which are well below the standard $80 - $125 per hour Orton Gillingham trained tutors typically charge. Payments are securely made via Paypal.
